PRESS RELEASE: Raising Leaders of Character, Conviction, and Courage
Feb. 2, 2026
Scarborough, Ontario — Future Hope Academy Christian School has a clear and compelling mission: to raise leaders of character, conviction, and courage—young people grounded in faith, disciplined in purpose, and prepared to lead with integrity.
Opened in September 2025, Future Hope Academy is a co-educational Christian secondary school serving students in Grades 7–12 in Scarborough, Ontario. The school is intentionally designed to nurture both academic excellence and Christ-centered character in a supportive, close-knit learning environment.
“We aim to instill values of hard work, integrity, and honesty in our students,” says Principal Sajanth Mohan. “These values are foundational for success in any calling—whether business, athletics, university, or the skilled trades.”
At the heart of Future Hope Academy is its Christian mission and daily discipleship. “With faith as our foundation, knowledge as our tool, and service as our calling, we empower students to step confidently into their future, ready to lead and shine for Christ (Matthew 5:14–16),” says Vice Principal Teresa Pierre.
Pierre is a Canadian educational reformer with more than a decade of experience advocating for school accountability and parental partnership as President of Parents as First Educators. She emphasizes that Future Hope is shaping students to be critical thinkers, servant leaders, and active contributors to their communities through leadership and volunteer service.
Each school day begins with devotion led by Shamar Bennette, Chaplain of the school, who plays a vital role in the spiritual life of the campus. “Shamar has a remarkable ability to communicate biblical truth in a way students can understand and apply,” says Pierre. “He brings spiritual clarity, warmth, and life to our community.”
Future Hope Academy offers all courses required to earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and recently received a two-year inspection result from the Ontario Ministry of Education.
Academic excellence is supported through intentionally small class sizes, allowing for individualized instruction, meaningful teacher-student engagement, and closer academic monitoring. The school also provides after-school tutoring to support students facing academic challenges and to help every learner reach their full potential.
Athletics are an important part of student development, with clear academic expectations in place. Students must maintain a minimum 70% academic average to participate on sports teams.
In its first year, Future Hope Academy launched three boys’ basketball teams, with its junior provincial team quickly rising to the top of the OSBA D1 League.
“What the basketball program has achieved in such a short time is exceptional,” says Mohan. “The discipline, teamwork, and leadership we see on the court reflect the values we cultivate in the classroom.”
The basketball program is led by Teran Richards of Gators Basketball Academy, alongside Coaches Russell Yarde and Jaycee Cruz, who has coached with Kansas State University and the Raptors 905. Richards is the founder of Back 2 Basic Basketball Association, one of Ontario’s largest basketball organizations, with a proven record of developing athletes who have progressed to NCAA Division I programs, Canadian colleges and universities, professional leagues overseas, and the NBA. Coach Yarde has also played a key role in developing elite talent, including AJ Lawson of the Toronto Raptors.
Students commute from across the Durham Region, with some traveling up to 40 minutes by bus, while others come from Toronto and abroad. International students are fully supported with boarding arrangements and ESL assistance when required, contributing a global perspective to the school community.
Future Hope Academy is currently accepting applications for the 2026–2027 school year. Interested families are encouraged to contact the school at 416-900-0102 to arrange a family interview and learn more about the opportunities available.
“We work alongside parents, recognizing them as a child’s first educators,” says Pierre. “Future Hope Academy is more than a school—we are building a family where students are cared for, parents are partners, and every child has a place to belong.”
